Biomarker & Bioanalysis Senior Scientist

Location: Cambridge

Renumeration: Competitive

Contract Duration: 12 Months


The biomarker and bioanalysis Senior Scientist is responsible for initiating, directing and performing research experiments and implementing strategies. He/she maintains an in-depth knowledge of state-of -the-art principles and scientific theories. The Senior Scientist displays leadership by scientific influence. He/she demonstrates technical proficiency, scientific creativity, teamwork and independent thought. He/she has the ability to author scientific publications in peer reviewed journals and make presentations at scientific meetings.

Major Responsibilities:

To develop methods, design, perform, identify and solve problems and summarise data from pathology biomarker and/or bioanalytical support to invitro and/or invivo toxicology studies to achieve Project Team objectives

To ensure all work meets GLS (General Laboratory Standard)

Responsible for and ensure that the results of own experiments are recorded accurately and reported to a high standard

To build an awareness of current scientific development relevant to a particular area of pathology biomarker and/or bioanalytical science

To deliver high quality scientific results to agreed completion dates for several concurrent studies and schedule their own work in agreement with the Study Supervisor so that project deadlines are achieved

Influence invitro and invivo scientists to ensure that appropriate samples are taken to define the biomarker and or candidate drug

Perform problem solving studies by identification of issues and where necessary designing experiments to overcome problems

Identify new approaches and technologies that would improve our ability to support projects

To present and describe work at internal meetings, and present at scientific meetings, as appropriate

Assist in the identification and evaluation of contract research organisations and coordinate method transfer as required

To contribute to the continuous improvement process by identifying opportunities in the workplace where improvements can be made

To use judgement and knowledge where appropriate to influence the work of the project, team, section and department

To participate in and contribute to local discipline review groups

To ensure their own work is conducted in accordance with local Safety, Health and Environment requirementsMinimum Requirements

BS or MS in related field of science (biomarker and/or bioanalysis) and at least 3 years work experience. Prior research experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry or academic research laboratory preferred.

Skills and Competencies

The individual should have experience and knowledge in several of the following areas and be an expert in at least one of the analytical technologies associated with biomarker and bioanalysis delivery:

Quantitative pathology biomarker assay development, application and data interpretation

Quantitative bioanalysis assay development, application and data interpretation

Biofluid and tissue sample analysis

Analytical techniques eg ligand binding/immune assays, PCR, flow cytometry,

An understanding of automation, liquid handling, instrument management and data handling

Has a good, practical, understanding of biomarker and or bioanalysis study design and data analysis

Preferred Background

Experience of safety biomarkers and/or bioanalysis of large molecules
